Cold Front Triggers Power Outages in Multiple Parishes

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says strong winds linked to a cold front have caused electricity disruptions across several parishes, leaving customers without power in parts of Hanover, St Ann, the Corporate Area, St Catherine, and Clarendon.

According to JPS, emergency crews have been working since Monday night to restore service, once conditions allow. Chief Operating Officer Lance Becca said restoration efforts are progressing, despite challenging weather conditions.

“Our teams were out late into the night restoring supply where it was safe to do so, and we have already made significant progress,” Becca said on Tuesday.

The company is also urging residents to remain cautious, especially around downed or damaged power lines. Members of the public are being encouraged to report outages or hazards via the JPS mobile app, the company’s social media platforms (@myjpsonline), or the Customer Care Centre at 888-CALL-JPS.

The power interruptions come as unsettled weather continues to affect the island. Meteorologists say a cold front is currently influencing local conditions, while a trough moving across the western Caribbean is expected to bring periods of showers, thunderstorms, and gusty winds from late Tuesday night through Thursday.

Forecasters are also monitoring another cold front expected on Friday, which could bring cooler temperatures and strong winds, particularly across northern parishes.
